As we get ready to hang the stockings by the chimney with care and celebrate the fact Saint Nick will soon be here, we take a little time to reflect on 2018  – which saw big changes and exciting developments here at Survival Emergency Solutions – enabling us to continue to spread our global message of safety, protection and goodwill to all.

A changing of the guard

2018 saw the continuing evolution of the Survival family. Founders Jerry and Tim Tyrrell handed over the reigns to Tim’s son, Mike, who left his career as a lawyer to continue Survival’s family legacy on a global scale. Working together with Jerry and Tim and his best mate Jordan, Mike is driving the continual innovation of Survival’s pioneering first aid products to develop even smarter and more efficient safety solutions now and into the future.

Global ambassadors

From skydivers to Swedish adventurers, 2018 saw Survival launch its Global Ambassador program to bring you stories and experiences from around the world of ordinary people doing extraordinary things.

Preparing themselves for any emergency with the latest in Survival first aid innovations including revolutionary first aid KITS and Survival’s pioneering iFirstAid app, people from across the world became a part of Survival’s Global Ambassadors program to help spread Survival’s safety messages to all corners of the earth.

Technological innovations

This past year also saw Survival make it easier and more efficient for you to purchase safety solutions through the development and launch of our new website. Focusing on improvements to customer experience, increased purchasing options and greater flexibility, we have been working hard behind the scenes to ensure we can improve accessibility to our full range of safety solutions for people everywhere. 2018 also saw us release the latest version of the iFirstAid app, offering enhanced safety features and improved emergency solutions.

Beyond borders

From learning about the latest technological innovations in the USA, to connecting with local communities in China and Sri Lanka, the past year took Survival to places we had never gone before.

Not least of all a snake safety education mission to India, where reportedly 50,000 people die from snake bite every year. Mike and his brother-in-law AJ worked with local medical professionals and people on the ground in the notoriously named Snake Village, to deliver lifesaving snake safety awareness and education, as well as distributing 500 free SMART Snake Bandages for the safety of local villagers.

30-year celebrations

2018 marked a three-decade milestone for the operations of Survival Emergency Solutions. Beginning 30 years ago with our award-winning Emergency First Aid Handbook, we never thought we would grow to become one of the leading brands of first aid solutions across Australia.

New and improved first aid products

With Survival’s continued evolution, came exciting improvements to some of our most popular products. Improved functionality and even greater design innovation was applied to many of our leading first aid products including the Home, Work, Vehicle, and Travel KITS to name a few. Remaining true to our core principles of simplicity, organisation and accessibility, our improved product lines will help you be even better prepared for any emergency and will be widely available in 2019.

The weird, whacky and wonderful

From pet first aid with Dr Tim to real life accounts of ferocious Funnel-web encounters, dads sharing their fatherhood experiences and mums and bubs learning about CPR, there was rarely a dull moment in 2018.

And of course, me must mention our faithful, four-legged ambassador and unofficial Survival mascot Ralph, who celebrated his first birthday in April this year.

Thank you

To everyone who has been a part of the Survival story in 2018 – our collaborators, co-conspirators, competitors and of course to you – our loyal customers, we want to thank you for helping us to share the important message of safety for all humanity.

Wishing you all the best for a happy, healthy and, of course, safe festive season. 2018 has been an incredible year and you will never believe what we have planned for 2019…stay tuned!

Merry Christmas,

Team Survival.
