Double Trouble: 30 Years of Global Safety
The fearless founders of Survival Emergency Solutions, Jerry and Tim Tyrrell, celebrated a birthday this weekend and we decided to take the opportunity to reflect on everything this dynamic duo has achieved during the past three decades in their quest to enhance the safety and wellbeing of people all around the world.
Always being prepared
Personal tragedy and a terrifying experience with Tim’s then four-year-old son, Michael, sparked the twins to want to help others to be better prepared for emergency events. And while they realise some tragedies are unpreventable, being prepared and having the right tools on hand to deal with emergency situations can in many cases mean the difference between life and death.
And Survival’s pioneering first aid products have been specially designed with preparation in mind. Every Survival first aid KIT is colour coded and clearly labelled with its use to help you quickly and easily identify products in an emergency.
Survival’s flagship emergency item, the First Aid Emergency Handbook (now in its fifth edition) has been written in clear, concise and simple language by one of Australia’s leading first aid experts, and laid out in easy referenced, alphabetical listings and tabbed sections to provide step-by-step instructions for all kinds of emergencies big and small.
First Aid at your fingertips
Fast forward to almost three decades later, and Survival has employed these same principles when developing its world-leading iFirstAid app. Already used by countless Aussies, this lifesaving app offers access to local emergency services around the globe, as well as offering step-by-step instructions for emergency situations.
In 2019, Survival is running the iFirstAid challenge. Our goal is to have more than 100,000 people download the iFirstAid app. To help achieve this goal, we’re currently offering the Premium version for FREE. It’s available for download today.
The revolution continues
During the past 30 years of operation, Survival has consistently pushed the boundaries and challenged traditional methods and ideologies to improve on standard first aid practices. One of the biggest breakthroughs in recent years has been the development of the SMART Snake Bandage in conjunction with leading Australian snake experts, SSSafe.
The SMART Bandage features a simple pictogram design to help you apply the correct amount of pressure to effectively manage a poisonous snake or Funnel-web spider bite. This life-saving device offers more time to get to hospital and can make all the difference to the outcome of an encounter with some of our country’s deadliest creatures.
Available as part of the Survival Snake Bite First Aid KIT or stock up on extra SMART bandages from the Survival store, these are an absolutely essential item for anyone venturing outdoors during snake season in Australia.
The spirit of giving
An essential part of Survival’s ethos is the principle of giving. Determined to donate as many life-saving first aid products as possible has seen Survival partner with numerous humanitarian and charity organisations over the years. More than 50,000 first aid KITS have been donated and we have helped educate countless individuals, organisations and community groups in proper first aid practices. Survival also coordinates recycling of its first aid products to supply essential first aid items to organisations such as The Wild Medic Project and Guide Dogs Australia.
Watch this space
It takes courage, imagination and a sense of adventure to take some of life’s most terrifying and painful experiences and turn them into a global safety phenomenon helping to prevent disaster and equip people everywhere for emergency situations.
As we celebrate their birthdays and the milestones achieved throughout their global safety mission, we find ourselves asking…what will they think of next?
Many happy returns Tim and Jerry!
